Embraer and Uber join forces to develop aerial electric taxis

According to Embraer, their association with Uber will allow the creation of “small electric aerial vehicles with vertical take offs and landing”.

The director of Corporative Innovation in Embraer, Antonio Campello, said ”[Both Uber and Embraer] share the opinion that the transportation in polluted urban areas is ready for their innovative ideas, by flying on demand”.

According to what the director of products in Uber, Jeff Holden, said during the Uber Elevate Summit, held today in Dallas, USA, Uber expects to incorporate the aerial taxis into our society before 2020.

In my opinion, I think it’s very important that we start looking for solutions to avoid traffic jams, but I don’t know how this idea will help the environment and if it’s really going to work or whether people are going to find this means of conveyance useful or not.

Also, there are many details about this project that remain unsaid or not clear to me, for example, where are these vehicles are going to fly by, exactly? How expensive are going to be these means of transportation? Will these cars be available to rent or to buy? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see the result of this project to get the answers to our questions.
